I went to an Arab-American comedy night and there was a Muslim guy making a joke about being in high school football.
"I was hit so hard, I saw Jesus. Do you know how hard you have to be hit to see somebody else’s god?"
This is what jokes about religion are supposed to look like.

Social/hobby thing. People on the outside of the scene don’t really know how heterogeneous it can be, but the people who do “the furry lifestyle” and the people who more just like the art and subject matter are practically different communities that just happen to mingle in the same places.
I suppose it is a part of my identity though in that I owe a lot of myself to it. For one, a great deal of my mid-teenage sexuality was figured out through experimentation in the safe spaces it provided (Furn comes to mind). For another, having a malleable online identity in the form of my fursona let me try on multiple skins until I figured out what I really wanted to be, which is part of why I am where I am today! I even met my partner of 11 years back on Furcadia when I was like, 12.
It’s only recently that I’ve decided to be open about this though, because for all the elements of it I love I do find it an incredibly embarrassing scene to be a part of. Not because of the fetish culture or the liking of cute things (both of which I wholeheartedly support), but because of the cult of infantilism that it harbors.
Many people adopt being a furry as an identity because they want a Neverland where they can live in a state of naive early adolescence forever. This results in these weird sycophantic social bubbles of intense immaturity that let the community’s worst vices go completely unchecked. Meanwhile date rapists and dogfuckers and child molesters continue to be welcome in art sites and convention halls because nobody wants to deal with “drama”. They assume “the adults” will just handle it for them.
So I never feel 100% welcome in the scene because I want to be an adult that doesn’t tolerate these things who also likes cute/sexy animal people.
This may be the best explanation of furry I’ve ever seen
